The Reserve Bank of India has cautioned state-run lenders on overexposure to the retail sector. “It is not necessary that everything is hunky dory in retail,” S Vishwanathan, a deputy governor with the central bank, said on Tuesday.

There is a need to ensure that stressed asset buildup is contained so that banks get back to generate adequate internal accruals, he said at an Assocham event here. Vishwanathan said credit growth is more in private sector banks as opposed to the public sector banks and “then you have problem of the state run lenders also going for retail (loans)”.

“We believe that information asymmetry is the main bottleneck in some credit appraisal and strong credit monitoring,” he said, and called for a proper understanding of risk and mitigation of the risk so that the banks are lending to the right parties. Noting that businesses can get into financial difficulties, Vishwanathan said genuine business needs should be supported and malfeasance should be property dealt with.

Surat is Vodafone’s first 4G location in Gujarat. “We have launched this service symbolically from Surat. This year 206 towns will be covered in Gujarat, while nationally we plan to cover over 1,000 towns with our 4G network,” he said after the launch.

Vodafone has set its eyes on data revenues from 4G services, which it has already launched in Kerala, Karnataka, Kolkata, Delhi – NCR, Mumbai, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (East) and now Gujarat.

About 70 per cent of Vodafone India’s data revenues come from nine circles. For the first quarter of the current fiscal, the total service revenue stood at Rs. 11,412 crore, 6.4 per cent growth over the same period last year.

The company invested about Rs. 8,000 crore towards capex last year. In Gujarat, the company had invested about Rs. 541 crore. “We will invest a similar amount this year towards network expansion,” Sood said, adding that the company has so far invested Rs. 1,15,500 crore.

A Flying Jatt first week Collections

A Flying Jatt had a poor first week collecting 33.50 crore nett in its first week. The weekday collections of the film had very low occupancy and it hardly added 6 crore nett over the weekend. The film is a setback to the career of Tiger Shroff whose Baaghi just 4-5 months back had taken the most effective initial of 2016 in that it was universal and excellent against the cost of the film. Here the biggest problem was initial, an action film just can’t afford to open to such low numbers as they can’t grow as well as content films or films of other genres. The performance of The Flying Jatt was poor across the board with probably CI having the best figures comparatively. Delhi and East Punjab should have done much better due to The Flying Jatt being a North film but collections were very dull there also. The film has a heavy reduction of shows in the second week so won’t add much from here on.

Happy Bhaag Jayegi held steady in the second week on low collections grossing 6.75 crore nett apprx which takes its business to 24.25 crore nett. The drop on the week is just a little over 60%. A similar Khoobsurat (2014) had grossed 25.34 crore nett in its lifetime run starting from a 2.34 crore nett first day and Happy Bhaag Jayegi will do a little better than that film. The plus for the film is its better collections in the North which tends to hold better than the rest of the country so the film it should continue to add decent collection in North at least in week three.

Rustom 3 Weeks Collections

Rustom grossed 8 crore nett apprx in its third week to take its business to a little under 123 crore nett. The drop week on week is 67% which is better than last week. Rustom will become the second highest grosser of the year in terms of NETT collections by the end of the fourth weekend. The film already has the second highest distributor share and GROSS collections. The share has crossed 60 crore and this is only the second time an Akshay Kumar film has topped the 60 crore distributor share mark. The first was Rowdy Rathore. The business of Rustom till date is as follows.

First Week – 89,35,00,000
Second Week – 25,25,00,000
Third Week – 8,00,00,000

GRAND TOTAL – 1,22,60,00,000 apprx

The film has slowed in week three and around 3-4 crore nett business can probably be added in the remaining run of the film which should mean a finish of 126 crore nett plus.

For the poor, childless married couples in Assam, there finally emerges a ray of hope!

For the first time, the State Government plans to facilitate IVF (in-vitro fertilization) treatment or birth of a ‘test tube baby’ for the fertility-challenged couples in government-run hospitals.

Sources informed that an IVF centre will first start at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and subsequently, such centres will be replicated in other medical colleges as well.

The introduction of the IVF centre under the Gynaecology Department of the GMCH would mean that poor, childless parents, too, would have access to the facilities at a cost which would be less than half the cost charged by private hospitals across the country.

A source at Dispur told this reporter that although the idea to have such facilities at the GMCH was mooted some two years back, the matter got stalled for a number of reasons.

“The IVF centre at the GMCH would be of state-of-the-art quality and a team of dedicated staff, including doctors, would render their services. It will have all the specialised features of top class facility,” the sources said, adding the nitty-gritty of the set-up is being discussed.

Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) activists today staged a dharna at its Naharlagun office premises in protest against the latest hike in the prices of petrol and diesel. Petrol price was recently hiked by a steep Rs 3.38 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.67 a litre.

“The steep increase in the fuel price will inevitably affect the prices of essential commodities and the common people will be the worst sufferers. Such a harsh move of the BJP-led Government is a clear manifestation of anti-common people and pro-rich people policy,” alleged APYC president Nyamar Karbak.

Regional Transport Offices (RTO) will remain open on holidays and Sundays, except on September 5, for annual inspection of vehicles that had been stopped since August 24.

The RTO said that this has been done to clear the backlog as the inspection of vehicles had been kept on hold because high court had ordered that such test should be carried out on 250 m long track. Since, the track was not available, the fitness test had been stopped fearing contempt of court. Bal Malkit Singh of All India Motor Transport Congress, said, “The high court had given six week extension and the testing has been resumed.“

Regional transport office’s (RTO) newly implemented scheme to accept only those online applications for learning licences that have been generated through online portal have run into rough weather due to technical glitches.
The RTO officials announced that from September 1, the new learning driving licence should be made online.

“The RTO’s portal have not been able to smoothly generate receipts. Many a time the application form has to be filled again as the portal either gets hang or it displays server error,” said Naresh Lalwani, who was applying for the driving licence.

While those who are not attuned to the internet, the E-mitra center brings hardly any relief. “E-mitra charges Rs 300 to 500 to fill one online application. The agents would ask mere Rs 200 for the same. Also, there are huge crowds at the E-mitra centres,” said another applicant.

Suburban trains being operated from Arakkonam and Gummidipoondi to Velachery on MRTS line, which were under trial, have been made permanent. Commuters can also avail services on eight additional trains, from the existing 51, which will run daily except on Sundays.

There are 31 services to Vela chery and 28 from Velachery from Saturday . Railway board approved a proposal from Southern Railway to regularise the services.

Fifty-one services were in Fifty-one services were in troduced on July 25 on a trial basis from Gummidipoondi and Arakkonam. They were used by around 30,000 commuters daily in either direction, which is 30% of the total daily traffic on the MRTS route.

K Baskar, a frequent commu ter, said, “The move is good. There are some minor glitches which need to be set right to make the service useful for commuters. The board kept in front of the train does not say that the service is a fast train which does not stop at all stations. Automatic announcements at stations also do not mention the train as going to Velachery .“

The Railways is yet to integrate the new name of the trains into the pre-recorded announcement system at stations.

The trains cut down travel time by at least 30 to 45 minutes per journey . Commuters can take the trains to avoid heavy road traffic in front of the Chennai Central station to reach Park Town. As trains on Arakkonam and Gummidipoondi routes are delayed, commuters used to miss connections to Velachery at Beach station.
