On a day Jalpaiguri zilla parishad chairperson Noor Jahan Begum defected to Trinamool amid much fanfare, Congress made clear its intent to bring a no-confidence notice against two dissident karmadhyakshyas in Malda.

In the 32-member Malda zilla parishad, five Congress members -including sabhadipati Sarala Murmu, two Socialist Party members and seven CPM members -had recently joined Trinamool, taking their strength to 20. But it isn’t the TMC-controlled board that will elect karmadyakshas and pass the budget -that’s the job of the extended committee.

Congress now wants to expose this loophole to strip the defectors of their posts.

District Congress president MP Mousam Noor said: “Even after the dissidence, we have 38 members in the extended committee, out of 64. On this basis, we will bring a noconfidence motion against the defectors, Milan Das and Chandana Sarkar.“

The Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) met vice-chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh on Monday after the university directed its affiliated colleges to ask students to enrol again and submit all their details again to Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL).

Though the university has already conducted its online admission process, it has sought the details again as the work has now been entrusted to the MKCL.

While university officials were unavailable for a comment, the MNVS said that the VC had told them the exercise was necessitated as the company that had conducted the process earlier had a 10-digit system while the MKCL follows a 16-digit process.

“Many students have complained to the Yuva Sena. They want to know why they are being made to fill up the forms again,“ said Sainath Durge of MNVS. The group has asked the university to release an official notification and give students time till September 20.

Season ticket card holders of Mumbai suburban railway system will have rail card instead of paper tickets or mobile tickets. Railway board officials are in talk with the various banks to work out a system that will allow these cards to be used as season ticket as well as shopping at retail outlets.

Around 70 to 80 per cent of the total passengers are season ticket holder. The official said, “There are plans to offer silver card to (monthly pass holders), gold and platinum card will be offered to half-yearly and yearly season ticket holders.“

A senior official from CR said that they were not aware of the plan that was being worked out at the board level. “We will be able to give the feedback only if something concrete comes up before us,“ he said.

Mumbai railway official said that instead of coming up with the rail card, the board should try to popularize the smart card usage to reduce queue at the booking offices. He said, “We have to look carefully at the Mumbai Metro’s offer for the monthly pass holders. They have tied up with various retail outlets who offer discounts for purchase made from them if they produce these cards.“

Railway has a far wider consumer base, spread across entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and can expect better response if their smart card is linked to such discount scheme. The official further said, “The best option is to work on a concept of integrated ticketing sytem that will allow commuters to use one card for BEST, train, Metro, Mono and cabs.“

Mumbai’s experience with smart card was only partially successful. The Go card smart card was scrapped in 2010, two years after its launch in 2008.

Ajay Rane, a commuter said, “Authorities should focus more on popularizing mobile-ticketing system.“

Rustom has grossed 120 crore nett after its third weekend as it added around 5.75 crore nett in its third weekend. The trend of the film is better than last week with a drop of around 66%. The GROSS collections of the film stand at 167.4 crore which takes it the second highest grosser of the year after Sultan. airlift which was the best before Rustom grossed 166.03 crore. The GROSS figure is the amount collected at the ticket window while the NETT figure is GROSS minus entertainment tax. Airlift was tax free in Delhi /UP from week two which meant it collected less entertainment tax giving it a higher NETT ratio. The Nett collection of Rustom will go ahead of Airlift in the fourth week. The film is looking at a 125 crore nett finish which would make it the 22nd highest Nett grosser of all time. The business of Rustom till date is as follows.

First Week – 89,35,00,000
Second Week – 25,25,00,000
Friday – 1,25,00,000
Saturday – 2,00,00,000
Sunday – 2,25,00,000
Third Weekend – 5,50,00,000

GRAND TOTAL – 1,20,10,00,000 apprx

Happy Bhaag Jayegi 10 Days Collections

Happy Bhaag Jayegi has remained steady on low collections in the second weekend. The drop is around 60% from the first weekend which is better than the 70% average which most of the successful films show. The difference here is that numbers are low and when that is the case it is always possible to to have steady collections compared to films which are collecting at higher levels. The film is mainly collecting in Delhi NCR and East Punjab and in the final count it could be that the Delhi /UP and Mumbai circuit business is the same despite Mumbai being the bigger circuit. The under performance of A Flying Jatt has helped its cause. Below is the business of Happy Bhaag Jayegi till date.

Week One – 17,48,00,000
Friday – 1,00,00,000
Saturday – 1,50,00,000
Sunday – 1,75,00,000
Second Weekend – 4,25,00,000

TOTAL – 21,73,00,000 apprx

The film should now comfortably cross 25 crore nett and remains to be seen if it can get 30 crore net which will mean an AVERAGE fair. In an industry which has not even seen ten films reach the average mark in 2016 that would not be a bad result.

A Flying Jatt managed better collections on Saturday and Sunday but still it is low for its extended four day weekend. The collections that it has put up in four days was needed to be done in three days for a decent result. The only plus is that it has held through the weekend and collections on Saturday and Sunday were higher than day one which was a partial holiday. Sometimes films struggle over an extended weekend that open on a holiday and don’t get an initial. Still though Saturday and Sunday were better, the growth is probably not big enough to suggest strong holds in the weekdays though it remains to be seen what happens. Below are the extended first weekend figures of A Flying Jatt.

Thursday – 6,75,00,000
Friday – 5,50,00,000
Saturday – 7,00,00,000
Sunday – 8,25,00,000

TOTAL – 27,50,00,000

The collections of the film did not fare well anywhere and the main problem was North as even if others did not perform at least in North there should have been decent collections. Tiger Shroff who is two films old has not been able to penetrate the North market as both Baaghi and Heropanti score better in Gujarat, Maharashtra, CPCI and Nizam than other areas.

Amid protests from the opposition, particularly Trinamool, the Centre has decided to roll back its decision to make the Aadhaar card mandatory for availing DBT (direct benefit transfer) like subsidised LPG, public distribution system (PDS) supplies, scholarships and pensions after August 31.

With nearly 22% population yet to have a Unique Identification Number, the state is among the worst as Aadhaar card is concerned.

According to officials, though the deadline is only a day ahead, there has not been any communication from the Centre, making it obvious that it doesn’t want to go in for a direct confrontation on the issue.

“The Aadhaar deadline was August 31 and if the central government wanted to make Aadhaar mandatory for DBT, it would have sent a letter at least 15 days back. They have not even communicated to us over phone on the issue, so it seems they are likely to extend the deadline. We will have to wait for their letter to know the new deadline,“ a senior said.

All states will have to complete their Aadhaar enrollment before August 31.

When states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh have completed more than 95% enrolment, West Bengal has been able to complete only 78%.According to the latest data, only 75,467,010 people in West Bengal have Aadhaar cards out of the total population of 96,622,186, leaving 21,155,176 without the card.
