Anant Ambani, son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, has reportedly shed close to 70 kgs – almost half of what he weighed a few months back. On Saturday, a much thinner Anant surprised many when he visited Somnath temple.
Anant – a regular in the VIP enclosure during Mumbai Indians’ Indian Premier League matches – is learnt to have spent a considerable time training. He has also done several marathon runs at the Reliance refinery in Jamnagar. A fitness trainer from US is believed to have helped Anant shed weight.

Air tickets to get costlier by Rs 100:

Flights may soon cost flyers Rs 100 more per ticket as the government is planning to levy a Rs 8,000 cess on each domestic flight to fund regional connectivity. The move comes after ministers rejected the aviation ministry’s plan for a 2% surcharge on tickets.

DMK treasurer and former deputy chief minister M K Stalin on Sunday said DMK will not share power if it forms the government.
“There is no such chance,“ said Stalin when he was asked if the DMK will give cabinet berth to allies in the event of the DMK winning in the assembly election. Stalin said this on arrival at the Trichy international airport to attend the social justice conference of Dravidar Kazhagam at Siruganur in Trichy .

While many DMK leaders have at various points hinted that the party remains averse to sharing power, Sunday’s statement by Stalin confirms the party’s position.

The Congress is the major party aligning with the DMK.A few smaller parties like the MMK have also signed up.Stalin also raised the hope that some more smaller parties will be joining hands with the DMK.

Stalin said that only the DMK government can bring about social reformation in the state. “We are going to face the election on May 16 and the DMK will win and form the government. Keeping this in mind, he (Veeramani) has passed resolutions which will be implemented by the DMK government,“ he said, while referring to the 25 resolutions passed by the DK president K Veeramani on the second day of the confer ence.

Among the resolutions passed were 27% reservation in the private sector. “This conference urges the government of India to bring legislation to provide reservation of 27% for other backward classes and SCSTs in the private sector and in multinational institutions also.“

Reservation of 33% for women in the state assemblies and the Parliament, removal of creamy layer in central government jobs, and competitive exams in all languages listed in the Constitution were a few of the 25 resolutions.

The two-day conference was also aimed to condemning the murder of dalit youth Sankar in Udumalpet. But Stalin remained silent on the issue. For his part, Veeramani urged the people to vote for the DMK in the Assembly election. “DMK will be seated in the fort and Stalin will be beside Kalaignar [after the election],“ said Veeramani.

National leaders including Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, Rajya Sabha MPs Sharad Yadav and K C Tyagi were invited to the conference but did not attend.

5 AIUDF MLAs willing to join Cong: Gogoi

Chief Minister and Assam Congress Legislative Party (ACLP) leader Tarun Gogoi today said that the five sitting legislators from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), who were denied tickets for the ensuing Assembly elections, are in touch with the Congress party.

Gogoi told media persons here that although they have expressed desire to join the Congress, it would not be possible for us to give all of them tickets. “We do not want to give any kind of assurances related to tickets,” he said.

Five sitting legislators including Jahan Uddin from Dhubri, Gul Akhtara Begum from Bilasipara East, Monowar Hussain from Goalpara East, Moin Uddin Ahmed from Jaleswar and Mazibur Rahman from Rupohihat found their names missing in the list that was announced by the AIUDF yesterday.

“Leaders from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are also in touch with us,” the ACLP leader stated. He even said that the regional party had taken money from the Congress in previous elections and alleged that the regional party is good at switching positions.

Gogoi also informed that the final list of Congress candidates will be released in a day or two.

Mizoram celebrates Palm Sunday

People, irrespective of church denominations, today took out processions in urban areas and villages of Mizoram to celebrate Palm Sunday before Easter.

Children and adults joined the processions waving palm leaves, singing hymns and chanting verses from the Bible to commemorate the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, a few days before he was crucified.

According to the Bible, Palm Sunday was the only day when Jesus was hailed as a King during his lifetime.

Special praise and worship services were held in all local churches to commemorate the day

Election observer RP Saroj arrived at Udalguri on Sunday and visited several polling stations of Udalguri LAC and took stock of the awareness campaign among the voters. This was informed by Dimple Baruah, Assistant Commissioner in-charge of media and publicity cell of the Udalguri election district.

The election observer expressed satisfaction over the activities carried out to create awareness among voters even in the remote region of the district, Baruah said. She added that the election observer would visit Panery and Mazbat LACs of the district on Monday.

It is worth mentioning that the election officials have undertaken some unique ways to draw the attention of the common voters towards their duty as responsible citizens of the greatest democracy of the world by exercising their franchise on the poll day.
