N Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh chief minister tomorrow will release water of river Godavari into Krishna to mark the formal linking of the two rivers which is considered as good news for farmers of the state.
At Ibrahimpatnam village near Vijayawada, the programme will be held.
Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, State Water Resources Minister told media that A.P. has created history by completing the river linking project to change about 80 TMC of water from Godavari to Krishna river.
Advisor (Communications) to Andhra Pradesh government, Parakala Prabhakar, had told PTI, “The inter-linking of rivers has been on the cards and on the drawing board for a long time, from the days when (eminent engineer) K L Rao was irrigation minister in the Union Cabinet (in 1950s). The plan was revived during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s NDA government. But, this is the first-ever time, it has been implemented.”
The two important river linking projects of Godavari water with Krishna basin is being made possible by the ‘Pattiseema’ lift irrigation scheme on the banks of Godavari river at Pattisam village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
He said the place of joining of the two rivers near Ibrahimpatnam would be developed as a tourism place in the state.
